Service Learning is a learning experience that combines work related learning and academic work. The course combines formal instruction with related service in the community. Learning is enhanced through direct application of principles and practices taught. This course integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities for the week term during the summer. Students will receive an orientation and instruction before placement with an organization in South Africa or Namibia. Students are continually assessed as they complete work at the placement site. Student’s placement site will be selected considering student’s major field of study and personal interests.
